Today is Wednesday morning. It seems that the high temperature for the day will be 31F. Better than yesterday but my wife and I live in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and winters are rather harsh in this part of the country.
This morning I decided to move from solving Facebook technical interview questions to Microsoft. I will try to solve a couple problems a day if time allows. Will see how it goes. My source will be LeetCode. At some point I might switch to HackerRank.
Without further ado, let’s get to the problem at hand. Continue reading “1-bit and 2-bit Characters”
It is a rather cold spring day in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. I believe there is a winter storm warning for today all day. This morning when I got up, there was a thin coating of snow on roofs and lawns. The roads seem to just be wet. One way or the other my wife and I are not planning on going out. We are under lockdown due to the Wuhan virus (also known as COVID-19) pandemic.
Besides work I have been taking a few courses, reading technical documents, reading non-technical stuff and watching the news. As of today April 12, 2020 in Dakota County, MN (I live in the city of Apple Valley which is in Dakota County) the total number of deaths attributed to the pandemic in
Dakota County is 4 which represents 0.001% of the population. The previous count of 3 held for several weeks. In the USA the total number of deaths is 20,411 which represent 0.006% of the population of about 330 million. Seems like in this area we are doing well. No matter which city or country you live in, please keep social distancing and do not leave home unless it is needed. In order to beat the pandemic we all need to follow social distancing until a vaccine is available or until the CDC (do not trust unofficial sources) informs us that it is safe for people that have antibodies for them to resume normal activities. Earlier today I was scrolling through YouTube videos and Jumping on the Clouds HackerRank Solution by JAVAAID came up. About the time this channel was starting the author and I exchanged some messages. In general I do not spend too much time watching this channel, but I became curios today and decided to solve the challenge and then watch the video.
Besides that and work not much else going on. My wife cooked too much for lunch so she decided to go with a friend for a walk and some shopping to the Mall of America. I assume she will be back towards the end of my workday. We need to get a birthday card for one of my sons. Hopefully she remembers and gets it while at the MOA. It is Friday and it has been a long week and I am feeling somewhat tired. My wife and I have been invited for dinner at one of her brother’s house. I am looking forward to decompress later today.
In this post I tackled problem 17.4 from the Cracking the Coding Interview book by Gayle Laakmann McDowell. As usual I read the problem a few times to get a good understanding of what is required. Given that I have to generate the test scaffolding I try to be even more careful not to waste time. Continue reading “Missing Number”
I am writing a white paper on Agile. Hope to get done by the end of this week. I will be looking where to start posting it and future ones besides this blog.
I received a message for an easy challenge from HackerRank. Just to warm up I decided to tackle it. If interest in the Breaking the Records challenge please take a look at the description and then go for it. Continue reading “Breaking the Record”
